Beer

Corona Extra Mexican Pale Lager – 12 bottles

Clear pale yellow in color, with no head, no noticeable retention, and no lacing on the glass. The beer shows minimal to no carbonation within the bottle or glass, and a skunky lager aroma dominates the nose. There is a heavy, overpowering corn-filled aroma that overwhelms any other potential complexity, and it is so off-putting that it significantly detracts from the drinking experience. The scent reminds me of stale adjuncts and a lack of malt character, producing an unpleasant first impression.

On the palate, the beer remains flat and lifeless, offering little fizz or sparkle to lift the flavors. The muted body contributes to a thin mouthfeel, making the overall experience feel even more inelegant. The dominant corn character persists, with a harsh, almost metallic edge that clashes with any faint malt notes that might appear. The taste is consistently one-note, lacking balance, depth, or any redeeming qualities that could redeem the drink.

To salvage the experience, I resorted to adding a slice of lime, which did provide a modest improvement by imparting a hint of brightness and citrusy acidity. Even with the lime, the beer remains far from satisfying. In summary, this is a pale lager with negative attributes: pale color without head, flat carbonation, a skunky, corn-forward aroma, and a disappointing overall profile that benefits only marginally from citrus adjustment.
